About the EM Graduate School

The Graduate School on Engineering Mechanics was founded in 1996 and received a five-year accreditation of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) directly at the first application in June 1997.

The EM Graduate School embraces all internationally important research groups that are active in the field at Eindhoven University of Technology, Delft University of Technology and University of Twente. Eindhoven University of Technology acts as the commissioner of the EM Graduate School, locating the EM Secretariat.

The primary aims of the EM Graduate School are to provide additional education and training for PhD students of the participating institutions and to foster scientific contacts and collaboration.

In the second half of 2001, the activities of the Graduate School over the first five-year period of operation were peer reviewed by an international panel and a request for renewal of the KNAW accreditation was submitted in December 2001. In June 2002 the EM Graduate School received the ECOS/KNAW accreditation for its second period of operation, 2002-2007.

In the second half of 2006, the activities of the Graduate School over the second five-year period of operation were again peer reviewed by an international panel and a request for renewal of the KNAW accreditation was submitted in December 2006.
In June 2007 the EM Graduate School received the ECOS/KNAW accreditation for its third period of operation, 2007-2013.
